Your English test on Tuesday will cover competencies 3 (writing) and 4 (grammar). The test isn't very long, but I expect you all to do your best with regards to the writing. If your teachers (Sash or I) cannot read your work, don't expect a passing grade. Don't forget that a little pre-writing can greatly improve your final draft -especially on tests.
COMP 3: For the writing portion. You will need to use what you have learned about the characters in Romeo and Juliet. By now you should be quite familiar with what is a foil. If you are not, look it up or ask a friend. Here's a fun little exercise to try out with your friends. If I asked you to describe my foil -who would it be and how would you describe them. Since you will be writing a descriptive essay, it might be a good idea to review how to write one of those. Use vocabulary that will evoke the 5 senses of your audience (Sash or me). When you write, you will need to apply at least one appositive sentence. This where the grammar comes in
COMP 4: For the grammar portion you will need to review pronouns and appositives. You can find explanations and exercises on appositives in chapter 7 (new textbook) of your grammar textbook. Go to page 136 and do exercise 3. I dare you. It's not difficult and it will get you a leg up on how to handle Tuesday's test. You can find help understanding pronouns in chapter 11. I suggest doing all the exercises in this chapter. Again, you could do nothing, but don't be surprised if you have trouble later on with the test. A little work between now and the test and trust me -you'll ace it.
